3/8 Recap: Larsson, Varone boost Amerks

In Saturday action, Johan Larsson scored two goals and Phil Varone chipped in with a goal and two helpers as Rochester defeated Syracuse 5-3 to sweep the home-and-home set. The two-goal night gives Larsson a line of 14-22-36 in 37 AHL games this season, while Varone's three-point effort expands his team-leading point total to 48 (13+35) through 51 outings. Nathan Lieuwen made 28 saves to improve to 17-9-2 on the year. Luke Adam and Mike Zigomanis provided the other Amerks markers. Rochester is at home Sunday to host Oklahoma City.

In Sweden, Linus Ullmark made 35 saves as MODO ended the regular season with a 5-3 loss to HV 71. Ullmark completes the regular season with a 17-16 record, backed by a 2.08 GAA and league-best .931 save%. MODO finishes in eighth place in the SHL standings, setting up a best-of-three play-in series with Linkopings beginning Monday.

In the USHL, Connor Hurley scored a power play goal and added an assist as Green Bay lost to Fargo 6-4. Hurley's 10th multi-point effort of the season, and fourth in his last seven games, boosts his season totals to 12 goals and 42 points through 47 games.

Cal Petersen stopped 27 of 29 shots in Waterloo's 3-2 win at Des Moines. The victory, Petersen's second in his last three starts after a four-game stretch of losses, moves the Notre Dame commit to 25-5-3 on the year with a 2.49 GAA and .916 save%. 

In OHL action, Nikita Zadorov notched an assist to snap his four-game point drought as London skated to a 5-1 victory at Owen Sound. The helper gives Zadorov 29 points (11+18) in 34 games this season on the Knights blue line. Fellow defender Brady Austin logged a plus-one rating, elevating him into a tie for second overall with a cumulative plus-48.

Logan Nelson picked up an assist as Victoria held on for a 3-2 win over Kamloops. The energetic forward has 51 points with four games remaining on the regular season schedule.

In NCAA action, Sean Malone earned a power play assist as Harvard's season came to an end with a 2-1 loss at Yale. Malone finishes his freshman campaign with six goals and 20 points in 31 contests, earning All-Ivy Co-Rookie of the Year honors along the way.

J.T. Compher recorded four shots on goal as Michigan edged Michigan State 4-3. Compher has gone seven games without scoring a goal, but remains the Wolverines' leading point-getter with 29 (11+18) through 32 appearances.

Hudson Fasching logged one shot on goal as Minnesota played to a 2-2 tie with Ohio State (Buckeyes won the shootout). The freshman winger has gone three games without a point for the first time since December. Christian Isackson made his first appearance after a five-game absence, notching one shot on goal. The Gophers visit Michigan next weekend for a key, two-game series to end the regular season

Jake McCabe and Brad Navin each finished plus-one with one shot on goal as Wisconsin earned a 3-2 victory over Penn State in overtime. Winners of five straight, the Badgers close the regular season next weekend at Michigan State.
