3/8 Recap: Petersen, Hurley contribute as Irish advance

Cal Petersen continued to shine in the Notre Dame crease Sunday, stopping all 23 shots sent his way as the Fighting Irish closed out their Hockey East first-round playoff series with a 7-0 pasting of Massachusetts. He’ll take a 12-14-3 record, 2.26 GAA and .927 save% into this weekend’s quarterfinal round matchup at Massachusetts-Lowell.

Fellow Notre Dame freshman Connor Hurley was blanked in the first two games of the series, but came through with his fourth goal of the season in Sunday’s clincher over Massachusetts. The marker ended a 21-game goal drought for the 19-year-old pivot. He has 13 points in his first 38 collegiate contests.

Jason Kasdorf stopped 33 of 34 shots as RPI advanced in the ECAC playoffs with a 3-1 win at Clarkson. Kasdorf (11-17-2, 3.00 GAA, .901 save%) will get a few days of rest before RPI visits St. Lawrence in the quarterfinal round.

In the OHL, Jean Dupuy finished with a plus-one rating as Sault Ste. Marie extended their winning streak to 12 games with a 1-0 victory over Owen Sound. Dupuy has 42 points in 50 games with the Greyhounds.

Nick Baptiste saw his eight-game point streak snapped as Erie posted a 5-3 come-from-behind victory at North Bay. Baptiste has scored in his seven of last nine games to boost his season totals to 29 goals and 59 points in 48 games.
