4/14 Recap: Otters, Hounds use brooms

The matchup that everyone has been anticipating will finally happen as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Erie Otters each completed sweeps in their conference semifinal series' on Tuesday.

In Guelph, Justin Bailey recorded one assist as Sault Ste. Marie eliminated the Storm with a 3-2 victory in Game 4. Bailey captured three goals and five assists in the series. He has 11 points (6+5) in eight postseason tilts. Jean Dupuy logged a plus-one rating in the clinching win, leaving him with two goals in his four playoff appearances.

Nick Baptiste picked up one assist as Erie closed out London with a 5-2 victory. Baptiste collected a goal and four helpers in the sweep of the Knights. He has nine points (4+5) in the Otters' nine playoff outings.

The Hounds and Otters will meet in the OHL Western Conference Final with the scheduled to be determined. Erie appears in the conference final for the second straight year. The Greyhounds last appeared in the conference final in 2008.

In the QMJHL, Vaclav Karabacek (-2) notched one assist as Baie-Comeau doubled Val-d'Or 6-3 in Game 3 of the second round. Karabacek has three goals and 10 points in eight playoff contests. The Drakkar will look to use the brooms on Wednesday.

In the USHL, Christopher Brown was held off the scoresheet as Tri-City opened the playoffs with a 2-1 win over Omaha. The teams will continue the best-of-five series on Thursday.
