Will Borgen selected by the Sabres 92nd overall

Will Borgen is property of the Buffalo Sabres after being selected 92nd overall at the 2015 NHL Draft.

After finishing up his senior year of high school, Borgen excelled late in the year with the Omaha Lancers, scoring one goal and six points in 18 appearances. His steady play and confidence with the puck moved him up draft boards in the final month of the regular season.

Borgen is smart when circulating the puck. I'd classify him as a two-way puck mover who can play a physical game, but like Guhle, he is not an offensive stalwart. He has the overall look and tools to become a complete player who can adjust well to the flow of the game. He has a good shot from the point, but his three-zone competitiveness stands out as his greatest quality.

Borgen had originally committed to St. Cloud State for 2016-17, so he could return to Omaha for a ramp-up season of Junior A before hitting the NCAA ranks, but there is a thought that the Huskies will bring him as a true freshman next season with the program in need of capable bodies on the blueline. This a story that we'll try to confirm as soon as possible, and will definitely keep our eyes on in the summer months.
