10/31 Recap: Carrier steps up; Bailey gets first

William Carrier notched a goal and two assists for a career-high three points Saturday, and Justin Bailey scored his first professional goal as Rochester held on for a 4-3 victory at Portland. Phil Varone cashed a pair of markers to pace the Amerks, while Jean Dupuy supplied a pair of helpers. Nathan Lieuwen stopped 37 of 40 shots to pick up his first victory since opening night. The Amerks wrap up their road trip Sunday at Hartford.

In NCAA action, Sean Malone recorded two assists as Harvard opened the season with a 7-0 throttling of Dartmouth. The Crimson close out the weekend Sunday with a rematch with Dartmouth.

Jason Kasdorf stopped 27 shots as RPI swept Union 3-2. Kasdorf's first back-to-back victories of the year elevate him to a 3-4 record with a 2.60 GAA and .922 save%. The Engineers next hit the North Country for games with Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Friday and Saturday.

Cal Petersen was called upon to make just 14 saves as Notre Dame edged Connecticut 2-1. Petersen sits at 2-1-2 with a 2.91 GAA and .913 save%. Connor Hurley did not dress for the Fighting Irish, who complete the weekend set with UConn Sunday as part of Barclays Center triple header.

Will Borgen earned one assist for the second straight night as St. Cloud State skated past Miami 3-1. Sophomore centerman Judd Peterson went without a point for the second straight game for the Huskies, who continue the NCHC schedule next weekend in Kalamazoo versus Western Michigan.

Max Willman registered one shot on goal as Brown kicked off the schedule with a 7-5 loss to Holy Cross. The Bears will seek their first win of the season Friday at Dartmouth.

Anthony Florentino finished with a minus-one rating as Providence earned the sweep of Colgate with a 4-3 victory. The Friars get a weekend off before beginning a home-and-home set with Boston University on Nov. 13.

Ivan Chukarov posted one shot on goal as Massachusetts was rolled by Yale 6-1. The Minutemen will battle Connecticut next weekend in a home-and-home series.

In the QMJHL, Vaclav Karabacek scored his fifth goal of the year Saturday as Baie-Comeau was defeated by Shawinigan 7-4. The Drakkar are off until Friday when they visit Acadie-Bathurst.

In WHL action, Brendan Guhle recorded three shots on goal as Prince Albert  was doubled 4-2 at Swift Current. The Raiders return to work Wednesday versus Calgary.

Giorgio Estephan added an assist to his stat line as Lethbridge was defeated by Kelowna 5-3. Devante Stephens picked up a helper for the winning side. The Hurricanes continue their road trip through British Columbia Monday at Prince George. The Rockets are back at it Tuesday at Tri-City.
