11/7 Recap: Karabacek breaks out

Vaclav Karabacek came to life with a goal and three assists Saturday to earn the game's second star as Baie-Comeau dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to Halifax. At the 15-game mark, Karabacek has connected for six goals, 12 points and a team-leading 63 shots on goal. Seven of his 12 points have come in his last three games for the Drakkar, who have now lost seven straight.

In WHL action, Brendan Guhle scored his second goal of the year and added an assist as Prince Albert came up short in na 6-4 loss to Moose Jaw. Through his first dozen games, Guhle has rung up two goals, eight points and a plus-five rating.

Brycen Martin earned two assists as Saskatoon doubled Red Deer 4-2. Martin, who has now gotten on the scoresheet in three straight games, has racked up 17 points (3+14) in 18 games this season to place fifth in scoring among WHL defenders.

Giorgio Estephan recorded one assist as part of a first-star effort as Lethbridge edged Kootenay 3-2. Estephan has now collected points in seven straight contests to boost him to a total of 23 (6+17) on the year. He has recorded at least one point in 13 of his 17 appearances this season.

Devante Stephens put his first goal of the year into an empty net as Kelowna outgunned Portland 8-5. Stephens has four points (1+3) in 18 outings for the second-place Rockets.

In the OHL, Eric Cornel scored a power play goal as Peterborough was defeated by Niagara 5-1. Cornel, whose lamp-lighter ended a seven-game goal drought, has 14 points (4+10) through 18 contests.

In the NCAA, Hudson Fasching (2 SOG) saw his three-game goal streak snapped as Minnesota earned the weekend split with a 4-1 victory over Notre Dame. Next up for the Gophers is a home-and-home set with WCHA opponent Minnesota State. Cal Petersen made 22 saves in the Fighting Irish net to take the loss, while Connor Hurley finished with a minus-two rating. Notre Dame heads to Boston on Thursday to begin on two-game Hockey East set with Northeastern.

Sean Malone recorded two shots on goal as Harvard got past Brown 5-2. Malone has captured four assists in five games for Harvard, who continues the schedule next weekend with games at Quinnipiac and Princeton. Max Willman logged one shot on goal and a checking from behind penalty as the Bears fell to an 0-3 start. Brown again hits the road next weekend for games at Union and RPI.

Ivan Chukarov finished with a plus-two rating as Massachusetts posted a 5-3 triumph over Connecticut. Through nine collegiate contests, Chukarov has netted one assist and a minus-one rating for the 5-2-1 Minutemen. UMass goes for their third-straight win Friday at Merrimack.

Jason Kasdorf did not dress after leaving Friday's game with an injury as RPI defeated St. Lawrence 4-3 in overtime. As a result of the hit on Kasdorf, Clarkson senior forward Jeff DiNallo was assessed a one-game suspension by ECAC Hockey. RPI is back in action Friday versus Yale.
