2/5 Recap: Karabacek back on track

Vaclav Karabacek ended his seven-game drought by scoring his 10th goal of the year and adding an assist as Moncton was defeated by Victoriaville 5-4 in overtime. The second-star effort gives Karabacek an even 20 points (10+10) through 32 contests.

Hudson Fasching whistled a one-timer just 1:14 into the action for his 16th goal of the year as Minnesota downed Penn State 4-1. Fasching continues to lead the Gophers with a career-high 16 goals through 26 games.

Chris Brown set up the game winning goal as Boston College held on for a 4-3 win over New Hampshire. Brown's assist gives him two goals and nine points through 27 contests.

Cal Petersen made 23 saves as Notre Dame edged Vermont 2-1. Petersen improves to 15-5-7 with a 2.17 GAA and .927 save%. Connor Hurley recorded one shot on goal for the winning side. The sophomore pivot has four goals, 12 points and a plus-eight rating in 26 games this season.

Judd Peterson scored his 13th goal of the year as St. Cloud State smoked Miami 5-1. The even strength marker, which came off an assist from Will Borgen, snapped the sophomore's eight-game point drought. Borgen's helper was his first point since re-joining the Huskies after his stint with Team USA, ending a six-game slumber for the defensive-minded rearguard.

Ivan Chukarov notched one assist to extend his point streak to three games as Massachusetts was beaten by Boston University 6-3. The freshman defender has seven points (2+5) through his first 28 collegiate tilts.

Anthony Florentino recorded two shots on goal as Providence got past Maine 1-0 in overtime. Florentino has five goals, nine points and a plus-10 rating in 23 appearances with the Friars.

Jason Kasdorf stopped 31 shots as RPI was blanked by St. Lawrence 3-0. The loss drops Kasdorf to 8-7-4 with a 2.10 GAA and .935 save%.

Max Willman picked up one assist as Brown was defeated by Harvard 3-2. Sean Malone posted four shots on goal for the winning side.

Brendan Guhle logged a minus-one rating as Prince Albert earned a 2-1 shootout win over Swift Current. Guhle has skated in 45 games, ringing up seven goals, 19 points and 43 PIM.

Devante Stephens registered a boarding minor as Kelowna was doubled by Spokane 6-3. Through 52 games, Stephens has recorded two goals, seven points and a plus-nine rating.

Brycen Martin finished with a plus-one rating as Everett edged Kamloops 4-3. The two-way defender has focused more on his shutdown duties since joining Everett en route to going nine straight games without a point.

In the AHL, William Carrier scored a goal and two assists while Justin Bailey added a goal and an assist of his own to power Rochester to a 5-4 win over Syracuse. Evan Rodrigues scored the game-winning goal, his sixth tally of the year, with 5:51 left in the third period. Linus Ullmark

1/30 Recap: Guhle gets winner; Bailey trending up

Brendan Guhle crept between the hash marks and connected with a wrist shot for his seventh goal of the year Saturday as Prince Albert held on for a 5-3 win at Medicine Hat. The power play goal, which came 1:00 into the final frame, was Guhle's second game-winning gal of the year. The 18-year-old defender has collected 19 points in 42 games.

In the AHL, Justin Bailey scored his seventh goal of the year as Rochester entered the All Star break with a 4-2 loss to Utica. The goal gives Bailey six points in his last six games. Matt Prapavessis also scored for the Amerks, while Linus Ullmark finished the night with 28 saves.

Judd Peterson (-1) and Will Borgen were each held without a point as St. Cloud State advanced to the title game at the North Star College Cup with a 5-4 win over Minnesota State. Peterson has gone seven games without registering a point, while Borgen has been quiet in five games back from his appearance with Team USA at the 2016 World Junior Championship.

In the North Star College Cup nightcap, Hudson Fasching produced five shots on goal but was unable to score as Minnesota was doubled by Bemidji State 4-2. The Gophers will face Minnesota State in Sunday's third place game.

Jason Kasdorf made 30 saves as RPI was shut out by Yale 3-0. The loss snaps Kasdorf's six-game unbeaten streak, leaving him with a 8-6-4 record, 2.11 GAA and .935 save% entering February.

Anthony Florentino (+1) logged four shots on goal as Providence was beaten by New Hampshire 3-1. Through 22 games, Florentino has five goals, nine points and a plus-10 rating.

Ivan Chukarov scored for the second straight game as Massachusetts was defeated by Maine 5-4. Chukarov buried a shot with the extra attacker as the Minutemen looked to mount a comeback in the final minute of play.

Max Willman amassed four shots on goal as Brown played to a 2-2 tie with Union. The sophomore winger has collected one assist in his last 11 games.

In the QMJHL, Vaclav Karabacek was held without a point for the fifth straight game as Moncton was defeated by Halifax 4-1. Karabacek posted a goal and an assist in his first game with the Wildcats two weeks ago, but has failed to add to his haul since then to enter February with 18 points (9+9) through 29 games.

In the late games, Giorgio Estephan went without a point for the second straight night as Lethbridge was defeated by Vancouver 4-2.

Devante Stephens finished minus-one with a holding minor as Kelowna was beaten by Victoria 4-1.

Brycen Martin logged an even rating as Everett edged Seattle 2-1.

1/29 Recap: Cornel connects; Estephan streak halted

Eric Cornel scored his 22nd goal as Peterborough was defeated 3-2 at Ottawa. Cornel has points in eight of his last nine games to boost him to a total of 55 through 48 appearances. His 113 shots on goal rank eighth-most among OHL skaters.

Giorgio Estephan saw his 14-game point streak come to an end as Lethbridge was defeated 3-1 at Victoria. The streak, which was the longest for a Sabres prospect since Sam Reinhart earned points in 14 straight upon his return to Kootenay a season ago, saw Estephan collect 14 goals and 26 points. Through 49 contests, Estephan has 63 points (27+36), good for eighth on the WHL leaderboard.

Brendan Guhle logged a minus-three rating as Prince Albert lost 4-1 at Calgary. The second-place Raiders have lost four straight games.

Stay-at-home anchor Devante Stephens registered a plus-one rating as Kelowna downed Portland 5-3. Stephens has seven points (2+5) and a plus-13 rating in 48 contests for the Rockets.

Brycen Martin finished with an even rating in Everett's 2-1 loss at Tri-City. The two-way defender has gone five games without a point, his longest dry spell of the season.

NCAA

Ivan Chukarov scored his first collegiate goal as Massachusetts lost to Maine 5-2. The one-time blast from above the faceoff circle gives the 20-year-old freshman defender five points (1+4) in 26 games for a Minutemen squad that dropped six straight contests.

Sean Malone potted his fifth goal of the year while on a power play as No. 7 Harvard defeated Princeton 4-1. Malone has goals in two of his last three tilts, and a total of 11 points in 17 games.

Jason Kasdorf allowed three goals on 32 shots as No. 16 RPI came from behind to pick up a 4-3 win at Brown. Kasdorf, who has gone unbeaten in his last six starts, moves to 8-5-4 with a 2.05 GAA and .936 save%. Brown's Max William snapped a nine-game drought with an assist in the loss, leacing him with five points (1+4) at the 20-game mark.

Cal Petersen made 35 saves as No. 10 Notre Dame was blanked by No. 5 Boston College 4-0. The reigning Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, Petersen was unbeaten in his previous 12 starts. Notre Dame's Connor Hurley (-1) contributed one shot on goal in the loss. Chris Brown supplied two shots on goal for the winning side.

Anthony Florentio recorded one shot on goal and a clipping minor as No. 4 Providence got past New Hampshire 4-1. Florentino has nine points (5+4) and a plus-nine rating in 21 games.

AHL

Cal O'Reilly and Tim Scahller scored as Rochester saw their three-game winning streak snapped in a 5-2 loss to Binghamton. Nathan Lieuwen allowed three goals on 10 shots before giving way to Linus Ullmark at 2:36 of the second period. Ullmark finished with 16 saves.

1/16 Recap: Cornel hits 20; Estephan pots winner

In Saturday action, Eric Cornel notched a goal and an assist for the second straight game as Peterborough was defeated by Ottawa 5-2. Cornel, whose power play goal put him at the 20-goal mark for the second time in his junior career, has 51 points in 43 games this season.

QMJHL

Vaclav Karabacek finished with two shots on goal and a minus-one rating as Moncton defeated Charlottetown 5-4 in overtime. Karabacek has 18 points (9+9) in 25 games this season, including a goal and an assist in two appearances with the Wildcats.

WHL

Giorgio Estephan scored the game winner 53 seconds into overtime to thrust Lethbridge to a 3-2 victory over Prince Albert. The goal, which saw Estephan take a puck at center ice and break in for a backhand finish, extends his point streak to 11 games. Through 45 games, Estephan has captured 24 goals and 55 points. Brendan Guhle picked up one assist for the Raiders in the loss, leaving the smooth-skating defender with 18 points (6+12) through 38 contests.

Devante Stephens contributed one shot on goal as Kelowna edged Victoria 2-1 in overtime. The stay-at-home rearguard has collected seven points (2+5) and a plus-eight rating in 44 games with the Rockets.

Brycen Martin picked up one assist as Everett defeated Seattle 5-1. Martin's helper gives him 31 points (4+27) in 43 games with Everett and Saskatoon.

Sweden

Victor Olofsson struck for his seventh goal of the year as MODO was beaten with one second left in overtime to take a 3-2 loss to Karlskrona HK. Gustav Possler assisted on Olofsson's marker.

NCAA

Anthony Florentino scored his fifth goal of the year and added an assist as Providence doubled Vermont 6-3. Florentino's second multi-point game of the year gives him five goals and four assists in 18 appearances with the defending national champions.

Judd Peterson and Will Borgen each recorded a shot on goal as St. Cloud State and Minnesota-Duluth played to a 1-1 tie.

Cal Petersen was called on to make just 16 saves as Notre Dame earned the weekend sweep with a 5-1 victory over Merrimack. Petersen has gone unbeaten in his last 10 starts to elevate his record to 12-4-7 with a 2.20 GAA and .927 save%. Connor Hurley produced two shots on goal in the victory. Hurley has three goals, 10 points and a plus-six rating in 22 games with the Fighting Irish.

Hudson Fasching recorded two shots on goal as Minnesota earned the Big Ten conference sweep with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Michigan State. Fasching, who entered the contest with back-to-back two-goal games, leads the Gophers with 13 goals and 22 points through 21 games.

Jason Kasdorf made 20 saves as RPI and Colgate played to a 2-2 tie. Kasdorf, who has lost just one of seven starts since returning from a lower-body hiccup, has a 6-5-3 record with a 2.01 GAA and .936 save%.

Max Willman recorded a game-high six shots on goal as Brown was beaten by Yale 2-1 in overtime. The sophomore winger has a goal and three assists in 17 games this season. He is currently without a point in his last seven efforts.

Sean Malone was held without a point in Harvard's 5-1 loss to Clarkson. Malone has nine points (3+6) in 14 games but has gone quiet in his last three outings.

Chris Brown notched one shot on goal as Boston College and Boston University ended in a 1-1 tie. Brown had amassed seven points (2+5) in his first 14 collegiate tilts, but has since gone pointless in his last nine.

Ivan Chukarov logged a minus-one rating as Massachusetts was blanked 5-0 by Massachusetts-Lowell. The 20-year-old freshman has posted four assists and a minus-13 rating for a struggling Minutemen club that has won just once in their last 15 games.

AHL

Goals from Dan Catenacci and Jerome Leduc were enough to give Rochester a 2-1 victory at Binghamton.  Nathan Lieuwen made 22 saves to earn the win.
