9/25 Recap: Locke winner gets Amerks preseason going

Eric Locke scored off a Dan Cateancci pass in overtime Wednesday as the Rochester Americans won their their preseason opener with a 3-2 decision over Wilkes-Barre. Phil Varone and Chad Ruhwedel scored in regulation for the Amerks, while Nathan Lieuwen and Connor Knapp combined for the 19 saves to get the victory. The Amerks and Baby Pens will meet again Friday to complete the preseason schedule.

In OHL action, Justin Kea picked up an assist in the game's first minute as Saginaw won their home opener 2-1 over Erie.  The Spirit will travel to London on Friday. The Knights' blueline continues to miss Nkita Zadorov, who signed his first NHL contract with the Sabres on Wednesday.

In the WHL, Logan Nelson was kept off the score sheet as Victoria was defeated for the second-straight night in Spokane 6-1. Nelson notched five points (1+4) in the Royals' first two games but was unable to point in the pair of losses to the Chiefs.
