Chad Ruhwedel scored the first two goals of his AHL career
Wednesday as Rochester skated to a 5-3 win over Hamilton. Goals from Mike Zigomanis and
Matt Ellis got the Amerks out to a 2-0 lead after the opening twenty minutes before Ruhwedel potted a pair of second-period markers to give the Sabres' farmhands firm control of the
contest. Frederick Roy added an empty-net goal, while Matt Hackett made 24
saves to earn the victory. Brayden McNabb was named the game’s number three
star after notching an assist and pair of fighting majors. The Amerks host Binghamton on Friday.
At the World Junior A Challenge, Connor Hurley registered an
assist as the U.S. Junior Selects earned a 4-2 win over Canada East. Hurley now
has five points (1+4) in two games at the
event in Yarmouth, N.S. Cal Petersen served as backup as Boston College commit
Chris Birdsall stopped 24 shots to get the win. The victory clinched Group A for the U.S., which will
face either Switzerland or Canada East in the semifinals on Friday.
In the USHL, Judd Peterson bagged his seventh goal of the year as Cedar Rapids came up short against Muskegon 6-5. Peterson has fired a 15 shots on goal this season, giving him a 46.7% shooting percentage through 10 games. Next up for the RoughRiders is a Friday-Saturday home-and-home series with Des Moines.
In the WHL, Logan Nelson (-4) was kept off the score sheet
as Victoria dropped a 5-0 decision at Edmonton. The Royals head to Seattle on
the Friday.
