12/13 Recap: Amerks freeze Monsters; Petersen stars

Matt Ellis produced a goal and an assist in regulation and later added the shootout winner as Rochester skated to a 5-4 victory Friday over Lake Erie at 2013 Frozen Frontier. Jerome Gauthier-Leduc, Phil Varone, and Colton Gillies also scored for Rochester, while Joel Armia contributed a pair of assists. Matt Hackett was solid with 26 save for the Amerks, who will quickly put the magical outdoor victory behind them to prepare for Saturday's match-up at Syracuse.

In the OHL, Justin Bailey snapped his five-game point drought with a goal and an assist as Kitchener dropped a 5-2 decision to Owen Sound. Draft eligible defender Damir Sharipzyanov notched a pair of goals for the Attack. Bailey will look for points in two straight Saturday versus Saginaw.

Nick Baptiste notched his 20th goal of the year and added an assist as Sudbury doubled Oshawa 4-2. Baptiste's 20th strike makes him the first Sabres prospect this season to hit that benchmark. The Wolves host North Bay on Sunday.

Brady Austin posted a shiny plus-three rating as London got past Guelph 5-2. London will be put to the test Saturday when they visit league powerhouse Erie.

Justin Kea was unable to connect as Saginaw was defeated by Peterborough 5-2. Draft eligible forward Dylan Sadowy scored his 13th tally of the season for Saginaw in a losing effort. The Spirit square off with Kitchener on Saturday.

In the USHL, Cal Petersen made 39 saves to earn the game's number one star as Waterloo earned a 5-3 victory over league front-runner Omaha. The Black Hawks, who have handed the Lancers three of their four losses this season, complete the pre-holiday schedule Saturday with a date with Team USA.

Judd Peterson scored his 10th goal of the year and was named the game's number three star as Cedar Rapids came up short 4-1 to Chicago. The Riders host Indiana on Saturday.

Connor Hurley posted two shots on net as Muskegon lost to Indiana 3-1. The Lumberjacks are at Chicago on Saturday.

In the NCAA, Jake McCabe (3 SOG) recorded a plus-one rating, and Brad Navin contributed two shots on goal as Wisconsin downed Colorado College 4-1. The two clubs will finish the non-conference set Saturday night in Madison.

In the ECHL, Jonathan Parker picked up an assist as Colorado downed Las Vegas 4-1. The helper gives Parker points in seven of his last 10 games.

Connor Knapp was scratched in Greenville's 5-4 loss to Orlando.

In Thursday action, Linus Ullmark made 35 saves and Gustav Possler (even) returned from his two-game absence as MODO was blanked by Lulea 3-0. Ullmark's fantastic play continues despite limited goal support as evidence by his league-best .936 save% and 1.99 GAA (3rd in SHL). MODO plays Leksands on Saturday.

Colin Jacobs was minus-one in Elmira's 5-2 win over Wheeling. The Jackals are in action Saturday at Reading.
