Grigo grabs goal as Amerks fall

In Friday night AHL action, Mikhail Grigorenko scored his fifth goal of the season as Rochester was defeated by Binghamton 3-1.

At 11:36 of the opening period, Joel Armia fished a loose puck out beneath his own goal line and advanced it into the Senators' zone before sliding a neat little pass to Grigorenko, who quickly got it to his forehand to improve his shooting angle for the clean finish. Drew Bagnall earned the second assist on the play.

Grigorenko's goal ties him with Phil Varone for most on the Amerks, while the primary helper gives Armia a team-leading 10 points in the team's 11th game.

At 5:58 of the middle frame, former Wisconsin Badger Jake McCabe dropped the gloves for his first professional fight against ex-Michigan Wolverine Alex Guptill.

The Senators would even the score five minutes later when Ohio State product Ryan Dzingel continued the period's Big Ten theme with his third goal of the year off a rebound putback.

Binghamton earned their first lead of the night at 7:00 of the third period when Guptill buried a Carter Camper feed for his second professional goal. The Senators closed out the scoring with Shane Prince's third of the season with less than seven minutes to play.

Nathan Lieuwen took the loss, stopping 32 of 35 shots to move to 3-4 on the year.

The Amerks are back in action Saturday when host a Utica club that has won eight of their first 11 games.
