4/3 Recap: Baptiste twice finds twine; ICE stay alive

Nicholas Baptiste scored twice Friday as Erie advanced to the second round of the OHL playoffs with a 7-0 pounding of Sarnia. The Otters, who defeated the Sting four games to one, will likely learn their next opponent in the coming days with two other first-round series still being played. Baptiste has three goals and four points in five playoff games.

Elsewhere in the OHL, Eric Cornel was unable to connect as Peterborough was eliminated from the postseason with a 3-2 loss to Oshawa in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal. Cornel ends the playoff season with one assist in five games.

In the WHL, Sam Reinhart scored his fourth goal of the playoffs and added an assist as Kootenay earned a 5-4 overtime victory over Calgary in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal. Reinhart, who earlier in the period took a pair of penalties, banged home a rebound on the power play to make it a 4-4 game with less than a minute remaining in the middle frame. The ICE trail the best-of-seven series 3-2 with Game 6 set for Saturday in Kootenay.

In USHL action, Christopher Brown logged a minus-three rating as Tri-City edged Sioux Falls 7-6. Brown has five assists in 12 games since being dealt to the Storm. He has gone 18 games without scoring a goal.

In AHL play, Rochester mustered 22 shots on goal but the Amerks were unable to score in a 6-0 loss at Iowa. Former RIT standout Matt Garbowsky finished with a minus-one rating in his professional debut.
