2/27 Recap: Petersen shuts door as playoff loom

Cal Petersen made 39 saves Saturday for his first shutout of the year as Notre Dame held off Boston University 1-0. The shutout moves Petersen's record to 19-8-7 with a 2.08 GAA and a .932 save%. Connor Hurley, who netted his sixth goal of the year in Friday's loss, left the game after getting smoked along the boards by 2016 draft eligible Charlie McAvoy in the second period and did not return. Notre Dame finishes the regular season as the third seed for the Hockey East playoffs. They'll have a bye next weekend when the action kicks off.

Anthony Florentino picked up an assist for the second straight night as Providence blanked Massachusetts 6-0. Ivan Chukarov finished the night with a minus-one rating, giving him eight points (3+5) in 34 games heading into next weekend's first-round playoff matchup with Boston University. Providence, the second seed, will enjoy a bye week.

Chris Brown was unable to get on the score sheet as Boston College was upended by Lowell 3-1. Brown ends the regular season schedule with two goals and 10 points in 34 games. The top-seeded Eagles get a week off as the opening round of the Hockey East playoffs begin.

Jason Kasdorf made 29 saves as RPI played to a 3-3 tie with Cornell. Kasdorf heads into the postseason with a 10-11-5 record, 2.18 GAA and .933 save%. RPI ends the year as the sixth seed for the ECAC tournament. They will square off with Brown in a best-of-three series beginning Friday.

William Borgen and Judd Peterson each put in solid efforts but St. Cloud State was swept on home ice by Minnesota-Duluth 2-1. Through 30 NCAA appearances, Borgen has collected 11 assists and a plus-13 rating. Peterson has 21 points (14+7) in 31 contests, including just two goals in his last 14 games.

Sean Malone remained out of the lineup as Harvard capped the regular season schedule with a 4-1 win at St. Lawrence.Malone, who has missed the Crimson's last three games with an unspecified injury, will get another week off as Harvard waits for their ECAC tournament quarterfinal round opponent to be determined.

In Sweden, Gustav Possler netted his eighth goal of the year Saturday to help MODO to a 4-2 win over Frolunda HC. The marker gives Possler 22 points in 48 games this season. Victor Olofsson recorded one shot on goal in 16:29 of action for the winning side.

In the AHL, William Carrier and Evan Rodrigues each notched a goal and an assist as Rochester suffered a 10-5 loss at Toronto. Bobby Sanguinetti scored twice, while Phil Varone scored a single marker plus two helpers in his final game with the Amerks. Linus Ullmark allowed six goals on 20 shots through two periods of play before being relieved by Nathan Lieuwen in the third.

In the OHL, Eric Cornel saw his seven-game point streak snapped as Peterborough was doubled by Sudbury 6-3. The Pete captain has captured 72 points (26+46) through 59 games this season.

In the WHL, Brendan Guhle logged a minus-one rating in Prince Albert's 5-3 loss to Moose Jaw.

Brycen Martin was blanked as Everett dropped a 2-0 decision at Seattle.

Devante Stephens produced an even rating as Kelowna earned a 4-3 overtime win versus Spokane.
