2/6 Recap: Olofsson dazzles; Bailey sparks Amerks

Victor Olofsson dazzled his way to the overtime winner Saturday as MODO skated to a 2-1 victory over the IF Malmo RedHawks. After picking up a helper on MODO's only goal in regulation, Olofsson did it all himself just 49 seconds into the extra frame when he circled in the zone, played catch at the point, and cut to the net while flipping the puck to himself before roofing a high shot to end the game. The goal, Olofsson's sixth in his last eight games, gives him a team-best 12 on the season. He leads the team with 23 total points. MODO winger Gustav Possler went without a point for the seventh consecutive contest. 

In Swedish second division action, Jonas Johansson made 21 saves to help Almtuna IS to a 4-2 win over BIK Karlskoga. Johansson has a league high 22 victories against 13 losses, along the way compiling a 2.31 GAA and .918 save%.

In the AHL, Justin Bailey connected for a pair of goals and an assist while Nathan Lieuwen stopped 23 shots for his second shutout of the year as Rochester pitched a 4-0 shutout at Binghamton. Bailey has scored goals in three straight games while notching 11 points over his last eight outings. William Carrier added two assists to give him five points in his last two games, while Tim Schaller and Jerry D'Amigo scored single markers. Schaller's goal gives him points in eight straight games.

In the OHL, Eric Cornel recorded five shots on goal but saw his five-game point streak snapped as Peterborough was blanked by Ottawa 3-0.

In WHL action, Devante Stephens logged a minus-one rating as Kelowna earned a 3-2 shootout decision over Calgary. Stephens has played big minutes on the Rockets' top pair all season long, netting seven points (2+7) and a plus-eight rating in 53 appearances. 

Brycen Martin finished with an even rating in Everett's 4-1 win at Seattle. Martin has played 53 games between Everett and Saskatoon, amassing four goals, 31 points and plus-nine rating.

In college action, Cal Petersen was superb in making 38 saves and Connor Hurley rung up one assist with a clean faceoff win as Notre Dame completed the Hockey East sweep with a 3-1 triumph at Vermont. Petersen has gone unbeaten in 14 of his last 15 starts to improve to 16-5-7 with a 2.13 GAA and .929 save%. The assist gives Hurley, who was tabbed for duty on the top forward line, 13 points (4+9) in 27 appearances for the Fighting Irish.

Hudson Fasching notched a short-handed assist as Minnesota was defeated by Penn State 5-3. The helper, which came in the second period as he broke down the left side and sent a perfect pass to Justin Kloos for the finish, gives Fasching 29 points (16+13) in 27 games. Fasching's 16 goals include three on the power play, two short-handed and five game winners. He has split the distribution evenly with eight each at home and on the road.

Max Willman registered an assist for the second straight game as Brown was doubled by Dartmouth 6-3. The sophomore winger has seven points (1+6) in 24 games, but has gone without a goal in his last 20.

Anthony Florentino picked up one assist as Providence earned the conference sweep with a 4-2 victory over Maine. The thick defender has 10 points (5+5) in 24 games for the Friars.

Will Borgen and Judd Peterson each contributed two shots on goal as St. Cloud State was edged by Miami 3-2. 

Jason Kasdorf made 29 saves as RPI dropped their third straight contest 4-2 to Clarkson. The losing stretch has dropped Kasdorf to 8-8-4 with a 2.15 GAA and .934 save%.

Sean Malone logged a minus-one rating as Harvard came up short 2-1 at Yale. Malone has captured five goals and 11 points in 20 games.
