Barnekow, who was the first of Buffalo's two sixth-round picks in the 2021 draft, gives the Sabres three prospects in action at the tournament, joining Jakub Konecny (CZE) and Viljami Marjala (FIN).
After not getting a look at Sweden's U20 World Junior camp a month ago, Barnekow will be making his first appearance for his country's national program as Thomas Monten and staff evaluate 18 new players in preparation for this winter's IIHF World Junior Championship.
A good showing from Barnekow could slide him into position for another look at the next Four Nations event in November, at which point Sweden will work towards finalizing their roster for mid-December's training camp. The promising forward enters the mix coming off a competitive training camp with Malmo of the SHL, where he has played a pair of preseason games as the team's second-line centerman.
