1/9 Recap: Hobey candidate Tropp extends streak

Corey Tropp (-2) registered a power play assist to extend his point-streak to a career-best eight games on Saturday as Michigan State tied Lake Superior, 3-3. Tropp has gone three games without a goal after potting seven in his previous five. Still, his 17 goals remain tops in the country while his 32 points trail Duluth's Jack Connolly by one for the national scoring lead.

In Grand Forks, Corey Fienhage earned his second assist of the season and Brad Eidsness made 20 saves as North Dakota held off Minnesota State, 3-2. Eidsness was tested more than he was in Friday's victory, making many tough stops late to earn the game's #3 star. Justin Jokinen was even for the Mavericks in defeat. Game highlights below:



Eidsness, the undisputed #1 goaltender in Grand Forks, moves to 11-5-3 on the year. Fellow sophomore Fienhage now has two assists in 13 games in relief of Hobey Baker candidate Chay Genoway.

Elsewhere in the collegiate ranks, Harvard defenseman Alex Biega finished -1 as was swept at Minnesota, 3-1. The senior captain has one goal and four assists n 14 games.

Nick Eno served as backup in Bowling Green's 4-3 loss to Ohio State.

In the QMJHL, Jacob Lagacé posted a shot on goal and a pair of minor penalties in Cape Breton's 2-0 shutout of Halifax. Lagacé has yet to register a point in two games with the Eagles, but was very active on the forecheck as he tried to get things going in his second game with new teammates.

Jordon Southorn was -2 as PEI edged Shawinigan, 3-2 in overtime. Rocket netminder Wendell Vye made 48 saves to backstop the victory.

Brayden McNabb was -1 as Kootenay defeated Red Deer, 2-1. With all three goals coming in the third period, it was a McNabb hiccup in the neutral zone while on the power play that led to the Rebels only goal of the game. The win was Kootenay's ninth in a row.

In the OHL, Marcus Foligno saw his five-game point streak snapped as Sudbury was shut down in a 7-0 shellacking by Belleville.

Nick Crawford was even as Barrie eeked out 3-2 overtime win over Mississauga-St. Mike's. The fourth-year rearguard has gone three games without a point for the first time all season.

In the USHL, Providence-bound Mark Adams was -3 as Chicago got thumped by Waterloo, 8-3.

1/8 Recap: Foligno hitting stride, Kass lowers boom

In Friday night OHL play, Marcus Foligno scored his seventh goal of the season and picked up a fighting major that led to huge momentum shift as Sudbury doubled Brampton, 4-2. The 6'3 checking forward is amidst a career-high five game point streak, including goals in three straight.

Foligno buried a one-timer from the slot top shelf at13:05 of the second period. After the Batallion came back with a goal just :37 later, Foligno came out on his next shift and drilled Rochester, NY native Phil Lane with a hit along the boards, causing Brampton forward Sam Carrick to challenge the relentless Foligno to a scrap.







Also from the OHL, Zack Kassian played his most complete game in weeks, but the Petes could not complete the third period comeback in a 4-3 OT loss to Oshawa. Kassian (-1) picked up an assist in the loss, and while failing to score a goal for the eleventh consecutive game, made a physical mark with one bruising hit in particular.

The 6'3 banger was in the middle of a scary moment with 3:07 left in regulation when his finishing check caused Generals forward Nick Esposto to leave the ice on a stretcher. Deemed a clean hit, the vulnerable Esposto hit his head on the glass upon impact after passing the puck up ice. No penalty was issued, and Esposto is expected to fully recover.

Kassian nearly iced the game n the OT when he executed a dangling offensive carry that has been quite rare in his season portfolio. Despite the solid effort, the Petes captain lost the puck at the point a few minutes later to allow a 2-1 break on Boone Jenner's short-handed overtime winner.

On Thursday, Kassian earned an assist as Peterborough lost to Mississauga, 6-3.

Also from Friday, Nick Crawford was -1 as Barrie got throttled by Kingston, 6-2. The Colts blueline is set to welcome Team Canada defenseman Alex Pietrangelo after a Friday night trade with Niagara.

In the QMJHL, Jacob Lagacé made his Cape Breton debut on Friday, registering four shots on goal as the Screaming Eagles were defeated by Saint John, 3-1. Cape Breton played without Maxime Legault, who left Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Montreal with an ankle injury. The 20-year old forward is slated to miss at least two weeks.

Jordon Southorn finished +1 as PEI bested Gatineau, 5-4.

In NCAA action, reigning NCAA Player of the Month Corey Tropp was credited with a pair of assists as  Michigan State skated past Lake Superior, 4-2. The leading point-getter in the entire NCAA, Tropp missed a chance to pile up additional marks by earning a 10-minute unsportsmanlike misconduct in the final minute of the second period.

Brad Eidsness was called on to make just 18 saves, while Corey Fienhage finished +1 as North Dakota defeated Minnesota State, 4-1. Justin Jokinen was -1 with two shots on goal for the losing side.

Alex Biega was even as Harvard lost a non-conference match-up at Minnesota, 5-2.

In Pittsburgh, sophomore netminder Connor Knapp watched from his usual Friday spot on the bench as his top-ranked Miami RedHawks were upset by Robert Morris, 3-1. Knapp should get the nod when the two clubs complete the home-and-home series on Sunday in Oxford.

Nick Eno made 28 saves including 17 in the opening twenty minutes as Bowling Green lost to Ohio State, 7-2. The junior keeper allowed five of the seven goals before giving way to Andrew Hammond with 11:35 to play in the third.

In the USHL, Mark Adams was +1 as Chicago lost to Des Moines, 5-3.

On Thursday, Brayden McNabb picked up an assit as Kootenay edged Calgary, 2-1. The 6'4 blueliner, who saw his seven-game point streak snapped in Wednesday's 8-1 win over Saskatoon, is currently fourth in WHL scoring for defenseman with 40 points (12+28) in 34 games.

1/3 Recap: Wicked pace continues for Lagacé

Jacob Lagacé scored his 30th goal of the year on Sunday as Chicoutimi defeated Quebec, 4-1. The leading goal-getter in the QMJHL, Lagacé's power play marker gives him 30 in just 35 games after netting 32 goals in 69 games all of last season.

Elsewhere, Jordon Southorn was +2 with four shots on goal as PEI defeated Halifax, 4-1. It appears that Southorn will stay put in PEI with Rocket GM Serge Savard indicating that he is done making moves for the current trade period.

Maxime Legault registered a shot on goal in Cape Breton’s 2-1 loss to Moncton.

In NCAA play, Brad Eidsness made 29 stops as #6 North Dakota played to a tie with #20 Notre Dame. Corey Fienhage was even with two shots on goal for the Sioux. The Irish were awarded the Shillelagh Tournament victory after winning a shootout.

Drew MacKenzie finished +1 as Vermont took the Catamount Cup with a 5-2 win over Duluth.

Nick Eno made 23 saves as Bowling Green edged Clarkson, 4-3. The junior ups his record to 3-9-1 with the win.

1/2 Recap: Foligno factors; Kassian's slumber continues

Marcus Foligno scored his sixth goal of the season on Saturday as Sudbury lost to last-place Niagara, 5-2. The 6'3 banger took a pass in from the blueline and snapped home a shorthanded tally late in the second period to give him two goals and three assists over his current four-game point streak.

Nick Crawford (-2) picked up an assist for Barrie in their 6-3 win over Peterborough. The offensive struggles continued for Petes captain Zack Kassian, who went without a point for the seventh time in his last eight games.

Jordon Southorn, whose name continues to be linked to Patrick Roy's Quebec Remparts, was +1 with an assist as PEI lost to Cape Breton, 4-1. Maxime Legault finished +2 for the Screaming Eagles.

Jacob Lagacé finished -3 as Chicoutimi was outgunned by Drummondville, 4-2.

In NCAA play, Justin Jokinen banged home a rebound for his third goal of the season as Minnesota State blanked RIT, 3-0.The sophomore made a few nice offensive plays in the game as coach Troy Jutting mixed-and-matched lines.

At the Shillelagh Tournament in Illinois, Brad Eidsness made 19 saves as #6 North Dakota beat Niagara, 3-1. The win ups the sophomore's season record to 9-5-2. Sioux blueliner Corey Fienhage finished the night even with a shot on goal and a roughing minor. North Dakota will square off with #20 Notre Dame in Sunday's tourney final.

In Burlington, Drew MacKenzie was +1 as Vermont defeated Alabama-Huntsville, 4-3. The unranked hosts will play #12 Minnesota-Duluth for the Catamount Cup on Sunday.

Nick Eno served as back-up in Bowling Green's 3-1 loss to Minnesota at the Dodge Holiday Classic in Minneapolis. The loss puts the Falcons record at 2-15-2 heading into Sunday's third-place game against Clarkson. Eno is expected to get the start.

In the USHL, Mark Adams recorded a shot on goal as Chicago held off Lincoln, 2-1.

1/1 Recap: Southy heading west?

Rumors out of the QMJHL are suggesting that Jordon Southorn has played his last game for the PEI Rocket, as a deal has reportedly been made that will send the 19-year old defenseman and another player (Samson Mahbod perhaps) to the Quebec Remparts. Nothing is official yet, but it could be done as soon as Saturday. A trade to a contender could be the jumpstart the Southorn needs to earn an NHL contract from the Sabres. Stay tuned for more details.

In Friday night OHL action, Zack Kassian finished -1 as Peterborough was shut down by Kingston, 3-0.

Justin Jokinen registered an assist as Minnesota State handled RIT, 6-1.

In the USHL, Mark Adams was +2 with an assist as Chicago defated Lincoln, 5-4 in a shootout.

1/30 Recap: Streak stopped for Tropp; Lagacé priced high

Corey Tropp notched an assist on Wednesday as Michigan State won the Great Lakes Invitational with a 6-1 win over RPI. Tropp made a cross-ice feed to Jeff Petry in the second period to register his 29th point of the year, but going without a goal ended his career-high streak of five straight games with a marker. Regardless, the junior still leads all NCAA players with 17 goals this season.

In the QMJHL, Jacob Lagacé (+3) had a goal and two assists as Chicoutimi edged Baie-Comeau, 4-3. The game's #1 star, Lagacé now has 29 goals and 52 points this season to leads the Sagueneens (14-15-4-4).

With Lagacé's name still surfacing in various trade rumors, word out of Chicoutimi is that Sags Coach and GM Richard Martel believes that the net-crashing scorer may return to the QMJHL next season as a 20-year old. Because of this, the asking price for his star forward will be more than what he received in the deal that sent Nicolas Deschamps to Moncton. Frankly, Lagacé going back to the QMJHL is very debatable. As of now, SabresProspects has him penciled in for Portland next season.

Elsewhere, Maxime Legault posted an assist and a game-high nine shots on goal as Cape Breton defeated Halifax, 4-2. The 6'2 Legault has three assists in three games since being traded to the Eagles.

Jordon Southorn was -2 as struggling PEI lost to Bathurst, 5-2. The Rocket saw four players traded away in the previous two days, and their effort resembled a team scrambling to make ends meet.

12/29 Recap: Lagacé keeps stacking; McNabb streak snapped

Jacob Lagacé scored his 28th goal of the year on Tuesday as Chicoutimi lost a hard-fought 5-4 decision to Baie-Comeau. The 5'11 Lagacé remains atop the QMJHL goal scoring list with 28 - two ahead of speedy Saint John center Mike Hoffman (26).

In the WHL, Brayden McNabb garnered an assist but saw his five-game goal scoring streak snapped as Kootenay edged Red Deer in a shootout, 5-4. McNabb is currently tied for the WHL defencemen in scoring with 37 points (12+27) in 31 games.

Elsewhere, Maxime Legault posted a pair of assists as Cape Breton throttled QMJHL cellar dweller Halifax, 6-0. The points, his first as an Eagle after being traded two days before Christmas, raise his season total to 22 (10+12).

Jordon Southorn was -4 as PEI lost to QMJHL powerhouse Saint John, 5-2. The Rocket were reeling a bit after trading their 1st and 4th leading scorers, Joel Champagne and Chris Doyle, to Victoriaville earlier in the day. The Tigers stocking up their offense could mean that Chicoutimi will have to find another suitor if they indeed have designs on moving sniping forward Lagacé.

In the OHL, Nick Crawford scored a goal and an assist as Barrie defeated Kitchener, 7-4. Crawford scored his 9th of the season when he beat Brandon Maxwell (COL) with a shot low to the blocker side at 18:40 of the opening period. With 22 straight victories, the Colts are closing in on the record of 25 set by Kitchener back in 1984.

Marcus Foligno picked up an assist as Sudbury stopped Soo, 4-2. Foligno found Cain Allicock from behind the net at 1:56 of the first period to put the Wolves ahead, 1-0.

In the NCAA, Alex Biega assisted on a late empty-netter as Harvard defeated #8 Quinnipiac, 3-1. The senior captain now has a goal and four assists through the Crimson's first 12 games.

Tropp hits 17 as Spartans roll

Corey Tropp (+3) scored his 17th goal of the season on Tuesday as #13 Michigan State opened the 2009 Great Lakes Invitational with a 10-1 trouncing of Michigan Tech. The Spartans, who saw their 10 goals come from nine different players, will take on the winner of Michigan/RPI in Wednesday's final at Joe Louis Arena.

Brayden McNabb scored a goal for the fifth straight game on Sunday as Kootenay defeated Calgary, 3-1. The goal gives the 6'4 blueliner an even 36 points in 30 games this season. McNabb finished the 2008-09 season with 36 points in 67 games.

12/18 Recap: Lagacé finds four more

Jacob Lagacé scored four goals and an assist on Friday to power Chicoutimi past Baie-Comeau, 6-2. The hat trick, the fourth of the year for the 5'11 forward, ups Lagacé's impressive season numbers to 27 goals and 48 points through 30 games. Lagacé's big night was his second in as many seasons against the Drakkar after posting four goals and an assist to spearhead a 10-5 win last January.

In NCAA play, Justin Jokinen scored his second goal of the season as Minnesota State played to 1-1 tie with Nebraska-Omaha. Skating on the fourth line, the sophomore hit on a tough angle shot from the left circle to open the game's scoring at 8:40 of the first period.

Elsewhere, Jordon Southorn had two assists as PEI dropped an 8-5 decision to Quebec. The points snap a seven game pointless streak for Southorn, his longest dry spell since March of 2007.

Maxime Legault posted six shots on goal as Shawinigan was shut out by Victoriaville, 5-0.

In the OHL, Nick Crawford was +2 with an assist as Barrie dropped the hammer on Kingston, 10-2.

Zack Kassian finished -4 as Peterborough was bounced by Ottawa, 8-0. The slumping Kassian is -5 with no points in his last four games.

12/11 Recap: Tropp sparks Spartan rally

Corey Tropp continued his pre-Christmas cruise on Friday, scoring the game-tying goal then starting the play on the overtime winner as Michigan State rallied past Bowling Green, 3-2.

Trailing 2-0 entering the third period, the visiting Spartans forced the extra session when Tropp buried a rebound through the legs of Nick Eno at 14:20. The late equalizer was Tropp's second in as many games, with the OT helper giving him eight multi-point games this season. Eno made 21 saves in the Falcons net to move to 2-9-1 on the year.

In a WCHA battle, Brad Eidsness was pulled for the first time in his career after allowing three goals in 23:48 of work as North Dakota played to a 3-3 tie with Wisconsin. Corey Fienhage was -1 after getting back late on the third Badger goal.

Per the game highlights below, Eidsness would certainly like the last goal back. Fienhage (4) is seen sliding to prevent the shot after losing control of the puck in the neutral zone, but otherwise played well on the Sioux blueline.



Elsewhere, Justin Jokinen was even with two shots on goal as Minnesota State defeated Bemidji State, 5-1. The sophomore's offensive tools were briefly shown while skating on the fourth line, and it's easy to think that consistent two-way hustle can keep him in the Maverick lineup. To date, coach Troy Jutting has used the spare forwards to keep the group honest. Jokinen has been a scratch five times as a result.

Connor Knapp took his regular Friday post on the Miami bench as the #1 RedHawks posted their third consecutive shutout with a 6-0 thrashing of Ohio State. Knapp will look to extend the blanking of the opposition when he mans the Miami crease on Saturday.

In QMJHL action, Jordon Southorn finished -2 as PEI lost to Saint John, 4-1. The Sea Dogs continue their QMJHL domination by collecting their 21st straight victory - the third longest streak in league history.

Jacob Lagacé and Maxime Legault were both held without points as Chicoutimi won a 3-2 shootout over Shawinigan. Lagacé has now gone three games without a point for the first time since February of 2008.

In the WHL, Brayden McNabb was -1 with a high sticking minor in Kootenay's 3-1 loss to Calgary.

Mark Adams remained out with a separated shoulder as Chicago lost to Sioux City, 3-2.

An OHL match-up between Nick Crawford's Barrie Colts and Marcus Foligno's Sudbury Wolves was postponed due to poor travel conditions.

12/9 Recap: McNabb pots winner

Brayden McNabb scored the game winning goal and added two assists on Wednesday as Kootenay downed Edmonton, 5-2. The big defender has four goals and five assists in six games since returning from a knee injury.

In the OHL, Nick Crawford finished +1 as Barrie earned a 5-4 overtime win over Owen Sound. The win makes the Colts unbeaten in their last 20 games.

Zack Kassian posted bagels across the stat sheet in Peterborough’s 3-2 shootout win over Belleville. The blanking snaps Kassian’s three-game point streak.

In the QMJHL, Jacob Lagacé was +1 with six shots on goal as Chicoutimi lost to Montreal, 3-2. The 5’11 forward went pointless in two straight games for the first time all season after seeing his 11-game point streak come to an end last week.

12/5 Recap: Knapp puts Irish to sleep

Connor Knapp made 18 saves on Saturday to earn his second shutout of the season and fourth of his career as #1 Miami tamed #14 Notre Dame, 4-0. The 6'5 sophomore was rarely tested, but was poised when he needed to be to up his season mark to 2-1-3. The RedHawks posted back-to-back shutouts of a weekend opponent for the first time in their varsity history.

In Marquette, Corey Tropp scored his 12th goal of the year as #11 Michigan State lost in overtime to Northern Michigan, 3-2. With the Spartans playing catch-up throughout, Tropp's marker with 6:21 left in regulation tied the game 2-2 and forced the overtime. Tropp has a dozen goals through 18 games after entering the year with just nine in his first 63 NCAA contests. The loss drops Michigan State to 10-6-2 on the year.

Brad Eidsness made 25 saves as #3 North Dakota lost a controversial decision to #12 Duluth in overtime, 3-2. The Sioux sqaundered a two-goal lead in the third period, with the tying goal coming in the final minute after a puck bounced into the netting behind the North Dakota net. The play should have been whistled dead, but instead Edisness was beaten as the play continued. The Bulldogs proceded to score just :12 into OT to hand the Sioux their fifth defeat of the year. Corey Fienhage was even while skating on the Sioux's third pair.

In CCHA play, Nick Eno stopped 16 of 19 shots in 29:04 of action before giving way to freshman Andrew Hammond as Bowling Green lost to Lake Superior, 5-2.

Justin Jokinen was even with a shot on goal as Minnesota State got throttled by Minnesota, 6-2. Freshman Josh Birkholz (FLA) led the Gophers by scoring the first two goals of his collegiate career.

In the OHL, Nick Crawford added two more assists to his impressive first half of the season as Barrie dominated Niagara, 6-1. The fight-filled contest was the 17th straight victory for the Colts (25-4-1).

Zack Kassian finished +1 with an assist as Peterborough was shelled by Windsor, 9-5. The Petes' captain also earned a second period misconduct on what turned into a frustrating evening for his club.

The 6'2 defenseman, who now has more fights (4) than goals (3) this season, took on 17-year old Jérémie Malouin just :17 into the second period. Three seconds later, Malouin's brother Danick dropped the gloves with PEI's Eric Bouchard. The Rocket (18-10-1-2) improve to 8-2 in their last ten games.

In the USHL, Mark Adams did not play as Chicago lost to Youngstown, 3-1.

12/4 recap: Friday night fever for Lagacé

Jacob Lagacé notched his second consecutive Friday night hat trick, including goals just :18 apart, as Chicoutimi lost a 7-6 overtime decision to Rouyn-Noranda. The Sagueneens scored six times in a wild, nine-goal third period but surrendered the game winner just :23 into the extra session. The game's #2 star, Lagacé (+2, 10 SOG) also added an assist to raise his season totals to 22 goals and 42 points while extending his point streak to 11 games. The hat trick was his third of the season.

In the OHL, Zack Kassian posted a goal and an assist, but Peterborough suffered several defensive lapses in an 8-4 loss at Kitchener. The 6'3 crash-and-banger finished a season-low -3 but still earned the game's #3 star.

Nick Crawford scored a late goal on the power play as Barrie kept rolling with a 6-3 win over Erie. The Colts move to 17-0-0-1 in their last 18 games, and current sit at #3 in the CHL Mastercard Rankings.

Drew MacKenzie was +1 as #19 Vermont played to a 3-3 tie with Boston University.

Connor Knapp watched as creasemate Cody Reichard stopped all 24 shots throw at him in Miami's 1-0 blanking of #14 Notre Dame. With Knapp allowing five second period goals last weekend against North Dakota, it is unclear if coach Enrico Blasi rides the hot goalie or elects to stick to his set schedule of Knapp getting the Saturday nods.

Justin Jokinen was scratched for the third straight game as Minnesota State downed Minnesota, 3-1. The sophomore has just one goal in ten games and needs to be more consistent in order to stick as a regular in the Maverick forward lineup.

12/2-3 Recap: Adam lights 20th

Luke Adam picked up his 20th goal of the year on Thursday and added two assists as Cape Breton dropped Lewiston, 5-2. The output gives Adam 47 points through his first 30 games, including seven (4+3) in his last two.

Jacob Lagacé hit for an assist in Chicoutimi's 5-4 loss to Rouyn-Noranda.

Brayden McNabb scored the game-tying and game winning goals on Saturday to lead Kootenay past Kelowna, 4-2. The power play goals were the fifth and sixth of the season for the rugged WHL defender. The game's #1 star, McNabb's evening was rounded out by 23 PIM, the bulk of which coming from a third period scrap and misconduct after Kelowna's Curt Gogul came in high on blueline partner James Martin.






In the OHL, Marcus Foligno scored a goal for the second straight game as Sudbury lost in a Saturday night shootout to Barrie, 4-3. Foligno lit the lamp on the power play at 9:05 of the third period to force the extra session. Nick Crawford was +1 for the winners.

Somehow not included in Friday's recap was Foligno's slumpbusting effort on that saw him net his second goal of the year (and first in 22 games) in the Wolves 4-2 loss to Owen Sound. The 18-year old wasted little time getting reacquainted with the twine, scoring at the 1:56 mark of the opening period.

In the QMJHL, Maxime Legault scored on the power play in the game's final minute to give Shawinigan a 4-3 win over Moncton. The 20-year old also earned an assist to up his season totals six goals and six assists through his first 12 games.

Jordon Southorn was even through a period and a half before earning a fighting major and game misconduct as PEI defeated Lewiston, 6-4. The win was the fifth straight for the Rocket.

In the NCAA, North Dakota's Brad Eidsness made 21 saves while Connor Knapp stopped 19 shots for Miami as the #3 Sioux and #1 RedHawks played to an exciting 5-5 tie at the Subway Holiday Classic. Knapp and the Redhawks survived a four-goal onslaught in the second period to score a pair in the third and earn the tie. Corey Fienhage was -1 for the Sioux.

In the CCHA, Nick Eno made 33 saves as Bowling Green battled to a 4-4 tie with Notre Dame. Three of the Irish goals came on the power play.

Corey Tropp was held without a point as Michigan State lost to Minnesota, 2-1.

Justin Jokinen was again a scratch as Minnesota State defeated Michigan Tech, 3-2.

In the USHL, Mark Adams did not play in Chicago's 3-2 loss to Green Bay.

11/18-20 Recap: Six-pack for Lagacé, Kassian helps thrice

Jacob Lagacé scored his 14th goal of the year on Friday as Chicoutimi lost to Bathurst in a shootout, 5-4. Tied for 9th in QMJHL scoring, the 5'11 forward misfired as the first Sags shooter in the deciding frame. Lagacé now has 14+ goals and 16 assists in 20 games this season, including points in six straight game since missing a week from a sketchy hit to the head by Quebec's Danick Paquette (ATL).

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, Maxime Legault scored his sixth goal of the year as Shawinigan spanked Quebec, 6-1.

Jordon Southorn was +1 in PEI's 5-4 loss to Moncton. 2009 eligible Brandon Gormley (6'2, 190 lbs.) earned an assist for the Wildcats.

In OHL play, Zack Kassian collected three assists, including help on the overtime game winner, as Peterborough won a 4-3 battle with Oshawa. The output was the first three-point effort of the season (16 games) for the 6'3 banger.

Nick Crawford assisted on the overtime game winner as Barrie got past Brampton, 3-2. The win was the tenth in a row for the red hot Colts, with Crawford scoring a goal and four assists in four games since his arrival from the Spirit.

Marcus Foligno was even as Sudbury carried the pace in a 3-0 shutout of Saginaw. The 9-13-0-2 Wolves will face Mississauga on Saturday. They haven't beaten the Majors since January 2006.

In Friday NCAA play, Nick Eno made 29 saves as Bowling Green scored three third period goals to surprise sputtering #16 Michigan, 4-2. The win was the first of Eno's career against the traditional CCHA power. The two clubs will complete the home-and-home Saturday night in Toledo.

In Cambridge, Alex Biega (-1) posted an assist and five shots on net in Harvard's 3-2 loss to St. Lawrence. The senior captain was again paired with freshman brother, Danny.

In WCHA action, Brad Eidsness made 33 stops as #2 North Dakota dropped a physical 1-0 decision at #3 Denver. Drew Shore beat the Sioux netminder on a power play tap-in midway through the second period for the only goal of the night. Corey Fienhage played his second straight game for the injured Chay Genoway, finishing even with an interference minor while paired with freshman Andrew MacWilliam. DU's Marc Cheverie earned his fourth shutout of the season in his first game back after suffering a leg laceration three weeks ago.

Justin Jokinen returned to the lineup with three shots on goal as Minnesota State lumped #10 Alaska-Anchorage, 8-2. The sophomore wing was a scratch in last Saturday's loss to Colorado College.

In the CCHA, Connor Knapp took his usual Friday reserve post as #1 Miami downed Western Michigan, 3-0. The 6'5 sophomore looked sharp last Saturday in a tie with Ferris State and is expected to get the nod again in the closer against the unranked Broncos.

Rounding out Friday's slate, Mark Adams was -1 as Chicago smoked Waterloo, 7-2.

On Thursday, Corey Tropp was credited with an assist as #6 Michigan State played to a 1-1- tie with #14 Notre Dame. The two clubs will complete the series on Sunday with a 4:00 start in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The offsite match-up will be a precursor to the city hosting the NCAA Midwest regionals in March.

On Wednesday, Nick Crawford was +1 as Barrie dumped Peterborough, 6-2. Zack Kassian was -2 for the Petes.

Marcus Foligno was -1 as Sudbury got bombed by Sault Ste. Marie, 7-0.

11/8 Recap: Crawford quietly cranking; Adam eyes ten

Nick Crawford scored a goal and an assist on Sunday as Saginaw doubled up Sault Ste. Marie, 6-3. Considered to be the Spirit's top shutdown defenseman, both of Crawford's points in the win came on the power play. His fifth multi-point effort of the season raises his total to 21 (4+17), good for third among all OHL blueliners behind Windsor's 2010 gem Cam Fowler (28) and teammate T.J. Brodie (23). In the QMJHL, Luke Adam extended his point streak to nine games with an assist as Cape Breton downed Val-d'Or, 5-2. The do-it-all, first-line center carried the pace for the Eagles, leading all skaters with eight shots on goal and six blocks while winning 10 of 17 faceoffs. Jacob Lagacé scored his 12th goal of the year as Chicoutimi lost to Drummondville, 6-4. His hustle down the middle was rewarded with the #3 star despite being a game=low -3. Jordon Southorn scored his third goal of the season in PEI's 5-2 win over Bathurst. In Hockey East, Drew MacKenzie (+1) set up the game winning goal as #16 Vermont blanked Providence, 3-0. The assist was MacKenzie's fourth of the season. Portland updates will resume this week.

11/7 Recap: Lagacé loose and lively

Jacob Lagacé scored a goal and added three assists on Saturday as Chicoutimi thrashed Shawinigan, 7-0. Lagacé's linemate, Steve Lebel ('10), scored a natural hat trick in the second period to lead the Sags. Both players finished the night +4. Shawinigan's Maxime Legault saw his four-game point streak come to an end, finishing even with a minor penalty in the loss. Lagacé, who has scored a goal and five assists in two games since missing a week with concussion-like symptoms, now has 24 points (11+13) in 16 games. The output was his third four-point effort of the young season after hitting that mark just twice in all of 2008-09. In Halifax, Jordon Southorn was +1 as PEI lost to Halifax, 4-1. The defenseman has nine points (2+7) through 20 games for the Rocket (10-8-1-2). In the OHL, Peterborough captain Zack Kassian (-1) and Sudbury grinder Marcus Foligno were both held without points in the Wolves 2-0 shutout of the Petes. A lumbering Foligno did draw one penalty on an early breakaway, but was mostly quiet throughout. Despite going 4-6 in their last ten, the Petes remain atop the East Division with a 10-11 record. The Sudbury win vaults them into third place in the Central Division (8-11-0-1). In the NCAA, Brad Eidsness made 22 saves as #2 North Dakota closed the weekend sweep of Michigan Tech with a 4-1 win. The Chestermere, Alberta native moves his season mark to 5-1-1 to keep the Sioux locked in a three-way tie with Colorado College and Denver for first place in the WCHA. Sophomore blueliner Corey Fienhage did not dress for North Dakota. Nick Eno stopped 36 shots, but Bowling Green could not overcome a two-goal deficit in a 3-2 CCHA loss to Ferris State. Eno's gutty effort raises his save percentage to .897 and could see him get the Friday start next weekend against Fairbanks. The Falcons (0-7-1) and Dartmouth (0-3) remain as the only D1 programs without a win. In a surprising move, Connor Knapp watched for the second straight Saturday as #1 Miami took the broom to #4 Michigan, 5-1. Knapp was bogged down by a flu bug last weekend, but this week was held out because fellow sophomore Cody Reichard has been excellent this fall for the CCHA-leadng Redhawks. In fact, the sweep of the Wolverines at Yost was the first ever for Miami, and the first for a visiting club since 2001. Alex Biega was even with a shot on goal as Harvard lost at #5 Cornell, 6-3. The Crimson held a 3-1 lead through the first 30-minutes before allowing the Big Red to swarm for five unanswered goals to seal the victory. Mark Adams was even as Chicago was swept by Fargo, 3-2 in overtime. Undrafted Minnesota recruit Nate Schmidt scored the game winner for the Force. A 6'0, 197-pound defenseman, Schmidt was listed last June as a potdential fifth-round target in the SabresProspects draft preview. The pick was used to select Adams, who looks to be ramping up with Chicago despite being on the ice for the OT goal against.

10/31 Recap: Tropp pots winner; Lagacé ready

Corey Tropp continued his blazing season start on Saturday by cashing the game winning goal as Michigan State defeated Western Michigan, 5-3. Tropp's closer, his 7th of the year, came at 6:44 of the third period when he roofed a backhand off a cross-ice feed from Nick Sucharski. The junior's seven goals and 13 points lead the NCAA through the first month of play, all the while propelling the unranked Spartans to a 6-2 record. Justin Jokinen was -1 with a team-best five shots on goal as Mankato played to a 4-4 tie at #3 Denver. The sophomore showed good jump on a line with Eli Zuck and Zach Harrison one night after a collision in the Pios crease that left DU netminder Marc Cheverie out of action for at least a month with a deep calf laceration. Connor Knapp missed his Saturday nod as #1 Miami squeaked past Northern Michigan, 2-1. Knapp has been shaky in his past two starts, but it appears that the sit was more about Knapp recovering from a flu bug than it was sub-standard play. Bowling Green's Nick Eno again gave way to 21-year old freshman Andrew Hammond as the Falcons lost at #13 Nebraska-Omaha, 3-1. Despite inflated goals against and save percentage numbers, Eno made several spectacular stops last Friday against Minnesota State. Still, Hammond was the Falcons best player on Saturday and earned the back-to-back road starts this weekend against UNO. In the OHL, Nick Crawford was even as Saginaw took a 5-4 shootout win over defending Memorial Cup champion Windsor. 2010 eligible Ivan Telegin scored his 9th and 10th goals of the season for the Spirit while consensus top-3 for next June, Taylor Hall, netted his 17th for the Spits. Saginaw sits alone in second place in the OHL's West Division with 22 points. Windsor still paces the league with 29 points. In the QMJHL, Jordon Southorn was -1 as PEI was shut out by Montreal, 3-0. The Rocket (10-7-2-1) sit in fourth place in the tightly packed Atlantic Division. Also of note from Eastern Canada, Chicoutimi Sagueneens forward Jacob Lagacé was held out of action this week as he continues to feel effects from being on the wrong end of a thundering blow to the head from Quebec's Danick Paquette last Friday (10/23). It was thought that the Sags leading goal man would return on Thursday, but precautionary measures have kept him off the ice. With headaches gone, Lagacé skated hard on Wednesday and will be on the ice when the Sags battle Baie-Comeau on Sunday.

10/30 Recap: Adam keeps rolling

Luke Adam scored his 11th goal of the year on Friday as Cape Breton defeated Halifax, 4-1. Adam, who was nmed the game's #3 star, helped pace the Eagles attack with a game-best six shots on goal. The reliable center is currently 7th in QMJHL scoring with 26 points. Elsewhere in the Q, Maxime Legault scored two goals including an empty netter as Shawinigan outlasted Gatineau, 5-3. On Thursday, Legault was held without a point in the Cataractes' 4-1 loss to Rouyn-Noranda. Jordon Southorn had an assist as PEI dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to Quebec. In the WHL, Brayden McNabb picked up a power play assist in Kootenay's 2-1 win over Brandon. The big lefty has three goals and 16 points for the Ice (6-11). In Friday night OHL play, Marcus Foligno had a pair of first period assists as Sudbury edged Niagara, 5-4. The gritty winger caused a major scrum to earn two of his eight penalty minutes late in the second period after he was hit from behind. On Wednesday, Foligno was +1 in a loss at Soo. Zack Kassian earned a checking to the head minor and a misconduct for abuse of officials as Peterborough lost at Mississauga-St. Mike's, 4-3. As expected, Kassian returned to the Petes lineup on Thursday, picking up checking to the head and cross-checking minors in 6-4 win over Oshawa. Nick Crawford was +1 in Saginaw's 6-1 win over Sarnia. In NCAA play, Drew MacKenzie assisted on the only Catamount goal as Vermont lost at Maine, 4-1. Alex Biega was +1 with a shot on goal as Harvard opened their regular season scehdule with a 5-3 win over Dartmouth. Entering the night as the nation's leading scorer, Corey Tropp finished even as Michigan State defeated Western Michigan, 2-1. Nick Eno watched as Bowling Green played to a 3-3 tie with Nebraska-Omaha. In Denver, Justin Jokinen was -1 as Mankato lost to the Pioneers, 4-3. Jokinen was involved in an unfortunate play in the third period that saw Denver goalie Marc Cheverie taken off the ice on a stretcher with a severe cut to his calf. Breaking towards the goal, Jokinen was taken down by defenseman Patrick Wiercioch, at which point he slid backwards into the Pio crease where his skate caught the goaltender on his back of his lower leg. In USHL play, Mark Adams was even as Chicago was blanked by Cedar Rapids, 2-0.
