3/5 Recap: Jacobs scores; Makarov torched

Colin Jacobs scored his 23rd goal of the year Tuesday as Prince George pitched a 3-0 shutout of Tri-City. Jacobs, who earned an assist in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Americans, now has career highs with 23 goals and 24 assists with seven games left to play. The Cougars will continue to fight their way into a playoff spot Thursday at Jacobs' old stomping grounds in Seattle.



Andrey Makarov allowed seven goals on 31 shots before being relieved for the final 10:33 of action as Saskatoon was defeated by Calgary 9-5. The rough outing, Makarov's second loss in a row following an impressive 18-game winning streak, moves his record to 35-17-1-3 with a 2.51 GAA and .921 save%. The Blades return to action Friday versus Medicine Hat.

Logan Nelson saw his three-game point streak snapped as Victoria was shelled by Kamloops 6-0. Winless in their last 10 games, the Royals will look to right the ship Wednesday in Kelowna.

In the OHL, Justin Kea picked up his fourth fighting major of the year as Saginaw was defeated by Plymouth 4-1. Andrey Alexeev ('13) scored his eighth goal of the year for the Spirit, who currently are holding the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with six games left on the regular season schedule.

Linus Ullmark served as backup as MODO closed the regular season with a 3-2 loss to Skelleftea. MODO, who finished in seventh place in the SEL, will begin the first round of the playoffs Tuesday versus #2 seed Farjestads.
