Ullmark excellent, Possler scores in MODO loss

In Tuesday action, Linus Ullmark posted an impressive 46-save performance as visiting MODO surrendered a 5-3 defeat to the Vaxjo Lakers. Gustav Possler scored for the second straight game, but MODO dropped their third decision in a row.

Vaxjo had a 3-0 lead midway through the second period, but MODO clawed their way back, topped with Possler's tally at 6:00 of the third period on a pretty play that saw him knock a pass down out of the air and streak in for the deke and finish. The goal gives him an even 10 points (5+5) in 19 appearances.

Vaxjo would regain the lead eight minutes later and add another to close the game out.

Ullmark was under siege all game as Vaxjo fired 51 shots on goal, including a 27-shot barrage in the middle frame. Several key saves were made, including one below that saw him quickly get set to challenge with his glove, but defensive breakdowns continued to plague MODO. Ullmark was excellent in keeping the score manageable, but the result moves him to 5-8 on the year with a 3.93 GAA and .882 save%. Meanwhile, MODO has just six wins in 21 games to rank 11th in the 12-team SHL.

Victor Olofsson played just 5:01 in the loss. It is unknown if an injury contributed to his second lowest workload of the season.

MODO gets back to work Thursday versus Linkoping HC.

Elsewhere, Jonas Johansson  served as backup as Brynas IF dominated Lulea HF 7-2. Johansson, who has been shuttling between Brynas' SHL club and their J20 entry, will look for his second big league start of the season on Thursday versus Orebro HK.
