12/28 Recap: Fasching chips in; Baptiste, Bailey battle

Hudson Fasching scored a goal for Team USA in their 6-0 victory over Germany in preliminary round action at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Nick Baptiste notched a goal and two assists Sunday as Erie doubled Kitchener 6-3. The three-point effort, Baptiste's highest output since joining the Otters a month ago, elevates him to 10 goals and 11 assists on the year. On the other side, Justin Bailey (#2 star) scored a pair of goals for Kitchener to get him to the 20-mark for the second straight season. Dylan Strome ('15) and Alex Debrincat ('16) each potted a pair for Otters, while 2015 candidate Gustav Franzen had a goal and a helper for the losing side.



Brendan Lemieux was kept off the score sheet for the second straight game as Barrie blanked Guelph 3-0. Lemieux remains among league leaders with 25 goals (3rd), 13 power play tallies (t-1st) and 81 PIM (2nd). Draft prospect Mackenzie Blackwood recorded his second career Ontario Hockey League shutout for the Colts.

Eric Cornel was shut out as Peterborough was defeated by Oshawa 5-4. Cornel has 28 points (8+20) this season but has gone without a goal in his last eight games,

Jean Dupuy (+1) logged his second fighting major of the year as Sault Ste. Marie lost to Saginaw 5-3. Dupuy, who centered the Hounds third line, dropped the mitts with 2015 draft eligible Chase Stewart (6'2", 212 lbs.) late in third period.

In the QMJHL, Vaclav Karabacek recorded one assist as Gatineau was doubled by Drummondville 4-2. Karabacek, who has gone five games without a goal after a streak that saw him light the lamp in four straight, has collected 24 points (10+14) in 30 contests.

Brycen Martin finished with a minus-one rating as Swift Current was hammered by Regina 6-1. The steady defender has 16 points (2+14) in 36 games.

NCAA

Cal Petersen made 18 saves and Connor Hurley assisted on the overtime winner as Notre Dame came from behind to earn a 3-2 victory over Miami at the Florida College Hockey Classic. Petersen improves to 5-5-1 with a 2.58 GAA and .910 save%. Hurley's helper gives him nine points (3+6) in his first 18 collegiate games, The Fighting Irish move on to face Lake Superior State in Monday's championship game.

Anthony Florentino recorded two shots on goal and a boarding major as Providence downed Massachusetts 4-1 at the Catamount Cup. Friars fifth-year defender Mark Adams did not play for the Frairs, who wrap up the Catamount Cup Monday evening versus host Vermont..

Sean Malone sat out as Harvard skated to a 4-0 exhibition victory over the Russian Red Stars.

SHL

Gustav Possler was unable to connect on a team-high six shots on goal as MODO dropped a 4-3 shootout decision to Leksands IF. Possler has eight goals and 15 points through 30 games, but has gotten on the score sheet just once in his last five. MODO goaltender Linus Ullmark served as back for the second straight game out of the holiday break.
