12/29 Recap: Karabacek scores; Florentino helper ends slumber

Vaclav Karabacek scored his 11th goal of the year Monday as Gatineau was doubled by Sherbrooke 6-3. Karabacek, who has gone without a goal in his previous five games, has 25 points and 82 shots on goals in 31 games.

Anthony Florentino (+2) snapped a 10-game point drought Monday with one assist as Providence blanked Vermont 3-0 to claim the 2014 Catamount Cup. The sophomore defender has five assists in 17 games this season for the Friars, who welcome Colorado College to town for set starting on Friday.

Cal Petersen stopped 18 of 20 shots as Notre Dame lost to Lake Superior State 2-1 in the championship game of the Florida College Hockey Classic. Petersen, who has started three straight contests for the Fighting Irish, moved to 5-6-1 with a 2.54 GAA and .909 save%. Connor Hurley (-1) contributed a one shot on goal for the losing side. The Irish get a week off before playing a home-and-home set with Western Michigan.

After securing 11 goals in his first six December games, Brendan Lemieux went without a point for the second straight night as Barrie edged Owen Sound 2-1. Lemieux's 25 goals in 29 games remain third in the OHL. The Colts close the 2014 calendar Wednesday with a home game versus Belleville.
